ABOUT THE FARM
In 1954, at the age of 8, Tõnu Oks and his family moved from Saaremaa to Tartu County, to his mother's childhood home. Since he was a child, Tõnu has been very interested in plants and innovative solutions, and inventing things has been close to his heart. And that’s why you’ll see innovative construction solutions and uses for equipment, which have not been adopted until much later elsewhere, if at all. :)
At Marjamaa farm, they started by growing roses in 1963, and in 1996, the first strawberry field, which was only 0.4 hectares, was established.
Currently, sea buckthorn is grown on 8 hectares; cultivated bilberries on 6ha, currants on 6ha, raspberries on 4ha, apples and pears on 3ha, strawberries on 3ha, and brambles on 2ha.
Our farm was the first to freeze and pack Estonian berries, and to start supplying them to retail chains in 1999.
We wash, freeze and pack the berries on-site in our production building.
90% of our berries are initially flash frozen (-32°C to -36°C) and then frozen (-8°C to -20°C). Flash-freezing ensures that most of the vitamins in the berries are preserved.
The Marjamaa Farm is located amid the forests of South-Estonia, where the soil is fertile and production is environmentally friendly. Sixty different products are produced in Marjamaa.
Our mission is to provide Estonian products in the form of juice, frozen berries or jams year-round, so that people don’t have to fill up their pantries or freezers in the autumn, but can buy exactly want they need year-round from the stores.
